George Strait breathed new life into traditional honky-tonk and western swing and, starting in the early 1980s, had a long series of hit singles, including "Fool Hearted Memory," "A Fire I Can't Put Out," and "Am I Blue."

In the 1990s, Strait's early career inspired a new generation of musicians including Garth Brooks, Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam. Strait continued to have success with albums such as Strait out of the Box, a four-disc career retrospective which became one of the top five best-selling box sets of all time, and Clear Blue Sky, which debuted at number one on the country charts.
